Best Comic Book Covers of the Week: 1/3/14

Happy New Year, folks! It's now 2014 and that means a whole new year for awesome comic book covers. Each week, the Comic Vine staff declares war on each other while trying to pick out the best comic book covers for the week. After a long week of battle and hurled insults, this is what we all settled on.

First up, we have the cover to SUPERIOR FOES OF SPIDER-MAN #7 by In-Hyuk Lee. While this issue really revolves around how Janice became the Beetle, the cover along is pretty darn awesome. The color here is amazing, and this team just looks so dang epic.

SUPERMAN #26 by Ken Lashley

The next cover on our list is SUPERMAN #26 by Ken Lashley. It's hard not to look at this and be reminded of the final scene in the original Total Recall. We love the ink and color work are fantastic here. The light coming out of Superman's face look very cool and his eyes lighting up are a great focal point for the cover.

TALON #14 by Emanuel Simeoni

Coming at you next is TALON #14 by Emanuel Simeoni. Simeoni puts detail into this piece exactly where it counts. Simeoni gives us a very up close and personal look at this character and you can even see the veins in Talon's chin. What's really fantastic about this cover is the shading work on the owl mask. The transition is smooth and flawless.

NEW AVENGERS #13 (Variant) by Mike Deodato

Here we have the variant cover to NEW AVENGERS #13 by Mike Deodato. He's been on this list many times, and it's because his cover work is amazing. Deodato really captures Black Bolt exquisitely here. The lines coming off of him really make it feel like his voice is powerful. It's so powerful, in fact, that it destroys the logo.

SUPERMAN UNCHAINED #5 (Silver Age Variant) by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez

Finally, we have the Silver Age variant to SUPERMAN UNCHAINED #5 by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez with Trish Mulvihill. It's so nice to see Mr. Mxyzptlk on the cover of a book again. The cover really captures the essence and fun of the Silver Age. The colors are bright and vibrant and this cover really pops!

That does it for another week of awesome comic book covers! Did you love a cover this week that we didn't put in this list? Then make sure to let us know in the comment section below!
