It's Friday, and that means it's time for another installment of Best Comic Book Covers of the Week! Each week, the Comic Vine staff goes to the local zoo and discusses what comic covers we loved while feeding the elephants. This week we got a few cool looking covers for you. Let's get down to business.
BATMAN #26 by Greg Capullo and FCO Plascencia

First cover this week comes to us from BATMAN #26 by Greg Capullo and colorist FCO Plascencia. While the layout is very cool, with Batman standing on the bones of what used to be a hand, what really makes this a stand-out piece is the color work on this cover. The way the sky is colored makes Batman look like the sun over Gotham City. The colors are beautiful and we love the color transitions towards the edges of the book.

BATMAN #26 variant by Dustin Nguyen

This may be the first time we've seen two covers on this list for the same comic, but we couldn't resist. Here we have BATMAN #26, again, but this time drawn by Dustin Nguyen. It's a super close-up on Dr. Death. It's a very startling cover. We love the bat logo in Death's eye, and the color work is fantastic, especially around his eye, where the shadows are creeping onto his face.
AVENGERS A.I. #7.INH by David Marquez

Next up, we have the cover for AVENGERS A.I. #7.INH by David Marquez. Marquez's work has always been a favorite of mine. The character line-up, for this cover, is pretty cool, but what really makes this a cover worthy of our best cover's list is Daredevil's sonar powers showing the reader what Daredevil sees when he goes into battle. This really works above the characters, to give the background a really interesting pattern.
BATGIRL #26 by Alex Garner

Here we the cover for BATGIRL #26 by Alex Garner. Garner has been appearing more frequently on our list because his covers to BATGIRL are fantastic. His artwork is a brilliant mixture of realism, with a dash of classic comic cover layout. The way Gordon and Barbara are laid out, in this scene, really reminds me of a lot of covers from the 90s. We love what Garner has been doing with the covers on this series.
CHEW #38 by Rob Guillory

Next up, we have the cover to CHEW #38 by Rob Guillory. CHEW is a really fun book (you should check it out), and the covers always look awesome. Looks like Mason Savoy is finally behind bars, and we really like the up-close-and-personal look at this character. I really like the more blue/green hues on Savoy, compared to the orange hues in the background, and we get a little bit of those mixing on Savoy's right shoulder.
CATACLYSM: ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN #2 by David Marquez

Finally, we have the cover to CATACLYSM: ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN #2 by David Marquez. Well, what do you know? Marquez made it onto our list twice this week! Now, this is a great book with a great cover. I love how the issue incorporates the cut-out of Galactus, to start. Miles, Cloak, and Dagger look so awesome here. They're ready for battle against the giant, purple space-man. Pay close attention to Cloak's... um... cloak. I love that smoke effect coming off of it.
That does it for another week of awesome comic book covers! Did you love a cover this week that we didn't put in this list? Then make sure to let us know in the comment section below!
