We've heard for some time that X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner has been wanting to make an X-Men spin-off movie with Gambit for some time. She mentioned wanting to get Channing Tatum to play the role. Upon talking to him, it turned out he was down for the opportunity. It was then up to Shuler Donner to convince Fox to make the movie happen.
Back in May it was confirmed a Gambit movie, with Tatum, would happen.
According to Variety, we can now write down the date for the movie on our calendar...provided you have one that goes to 2016. The Gambit movie will be released on October 7, 2016. The movie will be written by Joshua Zetumer. The movie marks the eighth X-Men movie at Fox and it will follow X-Men: Apocalypse which will be released on May 27, 2016. No word whether or not the movies will be connected in any way.
