Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Episode 208 - "...Ye Who Enter Here"

Note: There will be spoilers in our summary.

Recap

The episode opens with what's clearly a dream sequence. Skye is alone at the headquarters and hears a music coming from a music box. Coulson and May suddenly appear and have a baby. They talk about having to make sacrifices. They leave the baby and Skye finds herself getting affected like those who touch the Obelisk and wakes up.

Mac made a little remote control Lola. He tells Fitz he wants to work on the real one. He notices Bobbi and Hunter laughing and mentions a storm is coming. He also tells Fitz he'll have to talk to Simmons at some point.

Tripp is still recovering from his shot. They start talking about Skye's dad when she walks in. She feels like something really bad is going to happen. Coulson gives a briefing about their mission. HYDRA has the Obelisk and are on the move. Bobbi mentions they wanted a weapon to kill millions. They need to get to a temple in the city. Skye takes over with the results of the map. In San Juan, there might be a way into the underground city. Coulson says once they get in, they're going to blow it up.

Raina is at a coffee shop and sees May. Turns out it's not her. It's Agent 33 still wearing the May face that was burnt on her face. Agent Sam Koenig saves her. He reports to Coulson that HYDRA wanted to kidnap her and not kill her. This is he first sign of HYDRA since they let her loose. Watching a news report on Senator Ward and his parents, Skye tells May she knows Ward did it. Coulson sends Skye on the extraction mission to get Raina. He doesn't want her near her father.

Bobbi talks to Simmons and asks how long were they a "thing". She starts to fumble and Bobbi gets her to talk. Simmons was caught off guard hearing Fitz tell her how he felt and then he risked his life to save her. She said that as he was in a coma, she just wanted her best friend back. She couldn't imagine not being friends. She doesn't know where that leaves them.

As the team splits, Skye is compelled to give Coulson a hug. Mac talks to Bobbi about getting back with Hunter. It turns out there's something she hasn't told him. She wants to keep it that way. Skye arrives where Raina and Billy are. They're about to leave she Agent 33 arrives. Skye fights her in the hall. Skye puts up a good fight but soon is knocked down. Thankfully Hunter shows up.

Bobbi and Coulson arrive at their location. They're looking for Bobbi's contact. She voices concern that Coulson might not want to destroy the weapon but take it. That's what Fury would do. Coulson points out he's not Fury.

On the Bus, Mac leaves Simmons and Fitz alone since it's so awkward. They struggle to talk. Fitz says he's going to leave the lab so she can be in charge of the science stuff. He's not leaving, he's going to the garage with Mac. He says he can work for her, he just can't work with her.

Coulson and Bobbi get the city plans to try to enter to city. Raina tells Skye why HYDRA doesn't want to kill her, they need her because she can touch the Obelisk. She tells her that she could touch it too. According to her father, she's worthy too. Once she figures out why HYDRA wants her, she's willing to go to them.

In the tower they need to go in, there's a legend of it being haunted. They try to figure out what's in the tunnel but their remote camera go out. Raina starts talking to Skye about her dad. She tells her her father delivered her. Rena says he could be violent and stuff but he's also misunderstood. He took her and some others in. She didn't know where she belonged. She says Skye is all he wanted. Rena says they're human but have the potential to be more. She mentions a story her grandma told her about blue angels that came called the Kree.

In the tunnel, it seems to be about a hundred feet deep. Mac goes down into the dark. The Diviner (Obelisk) is supposed to guide the worthy to the city. Whitehall surrounds the Bus. He wants Rena. Mac reaches the bottom and sees symbols on the ground. He touches on and his hand starts burning as a symbol starts to form. They pull him up as he struggles with the pain. His eyes go red and he tells them to run. He hits Coulson and sends him flying. Mac seems to have increased strength. Bobbi tries stopping him as Coulson shoots him with the knockout gun. It doesn't work. On the Bus, Ward boards to take Rena. He says he's also taking Skye to fulfill his promise to her. It looks like there's no stopping Mac. Simmons almost falls down the tunnel but Coulson manages to grab her leg. Fitz points a real gun at him, hoping he doesn't have to use it. Bobbi knocks him out with the shock from her escrima sticks. Mac falls into the tunnel. Coulson says to close the tunnel. That wasn't Mac.

Agent 33 updates Whitehall that Ward has Rena but also took a hostage. Ward let the ship go. Whitehall isn't happy with this and says it wasn't his call to make. Agent 33 puts the order out to shoot them down.

Things are really heating up. Even though we still have a small team, there's enough Agents now to believably split them up. As the team races to find the lost city, it finally feels like we're getting some answers. This has the potential to be big if it turns out to be Attilan or somehow related to the Inhumans. With there being one more episode before the mid-season break, we don't get to actually see the city just yet.

The opening of the episode really added a creepy feel to the show. That's another great thing--there's so many different vibes the show gives off. We get plenty of action and fighting scenes, there's more character development, and, of course, moments of humor (but not too much to make you roll your eyes). The little exchange between Mac and Fitz is heart-warming as we see their friendship grow. This is continued when Fitz tells Simmons he's going to work with Mac in the garage. Once your heart is being warmed up, Fitz telling Simmons he can't work with her will break your heart. Then Fitz having to pull a gun on Mac and the fact that he couldn't shoot him when Simmons life was in danger is sure to add even more complications upon Fitz's struggling mind.

Then there's Patton Oswalt as the Koenig brothers. We get to see more than one on screen, at the same time. Despite the tension of the episode, they manage to add a little more levity, especially in their exchange with the recovering Agent Tripp.

It's also refreshing hearing Coulson's views on how S.H.I.E.L.D. should be run. Bobbi mentioned how Fury always had a number for how many civilian casualties they could have. The fact that he said the number is zero shows what it all means to him. He truly wants to save the world and is willing to do what it takes to make sure that can happen.

The real kicker of the episode is the conversation between Skye and Raina. Raina spent a lot of time with Skye's dad (who still doesn't have a name). When she tells Skye that they are human but have the potential to be more...come on! That's screaming that they're Inhumans. Are we going to see the Terrigen Mists in the city? Is that the big weapon locked in the temple? Could we actually see Skye transform into an Inhuman? Thank goodness they finally used the word "Kree" in the show.

There has to be something with the dream Skye had and the feeling that something bad was going to happen. Is she gaining precognitive abilities? She also managed to put up a heckuva fight against the skilled Agent 33. Yes, Skye's been training with May all summer but either she's a super quick study or there's just more to her than even she knew, in this department.

The exciting and scary thing about the next episode being the final one until March is either we're going to get some big revelations or we'll be left with a huge cliffhanger. Either way, it's pretty cool seeing how this show is now planting the seeds for the Cinematic Universe's future. People may knock the show but it's probably because they haven't been watching. I was on the edge of my seat throughout most of it.
