There's currently an online petition that will bring lots of pride to Alberta. The petition wants a life-sized statue of Wolverine to be erected in the capital of the province: Edmonton. The Change.org petition wants the Alberta hero, who is a Marvel icon, to be placed in the capital city to inspire everyone. Here's what the petition says:

To: City Council/Mayor Don Iveson

Please consider the opinions of the citizens who have signed this petition towards the creation of a life sized Wolverine statue to be placed somewhere in this great city of Edmonton to be viewed by all who live here and visit, as Wolverine is a Canadian and Albertan symbol of strength, perseverance in the face of tragedy, and overall heroics.

Wolverine is truly a Canadian hero and up there with the likes of Wayne Gretzky, even though Wolverine is a bit of a fictional character. The petition states that maybe the statue should be placed in City Hall, Churchhill Grounds, or even the Alberta Legislature Grounds. Currently, the petition is at almost 1,600 signatures.

Edmonton resident, Justin Ching, said that "This is something Edmontonians deserve."

Resident Rob Wing had this insightful comment for those who may find this idea a bit silly: "Despite being a comic book character, the morals and traits portrayed by Wolverine identify who we are as Albertans... Honorable, strong and sometimes a little wild. I would be proud to be identified with this type of symbol."

This isn't the first time residents of a city have tried to pay tribute to a fictional icon. Back in 2011, there was a successfully backed Kickstarter campaign to put a statue of Robocop somewhere in Detroit Michigan.

What do you guys think of this news? Will you sign the petition?
