Awesome Toy Picks: LEGO X-Men vs. the Sentinel

Each week we take a close look a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the package. With X-Men: Days of Future Past out in theaters, we asked: where's all the X-Men merchandise? We managed to track down the X-Men vs. The Sentinel LEGO set.

The set currently seems to be a little difficult to come by. It was found at a Toys 'R Us. There's only 336 pieces and prices are rising online. But you do get quite a bit in this set. The mini-figures are a big draw but besides the figures and the larger Sentinel, you also the Blackbird.

The jet holds four figures. Two can sit in the front and two sit in the back.

There's some missiles on the sides and a compartment in the back, behind the last seat. Inside is a fire extinguisher and a couple tools.

There's also some missiles that come from a back section that can be raised up.

But what happens when the X-Men take the Blackbird out for a spin? Chances are they'll run into Magneto.

The first X-Man out to confront Magneto will, of course, be Wolverine. Not the best choice but perhaps the question is, is LEGO Magneto the master of LEGO-ism? Does he have any control over Wolverine's Adamantium?

One of the cool things about this Wolverine, like Magneto, is he's different from the LEGO Wolverine Chopper Showdown that came with Deadpool and Magneto (featured HERE back in June 2012). He has the classic brown and yellow costume and also comes with a mask, which you'll see later.

Along with Wolverine and Magneto, we also get Storm and Cyclops.

Magneto needs the X-Men to put aside their differences. There's a bigger problem coming. He's even willing to remove his helmet to let them know he's willing to let his guard down. Or maybe it's because there's no telepaths around.

Inside the Blackbird, a sensor goes off, warning them a Sentinel is on the way.

The Sentinel attacks by shooting at the Blackbird. Can the X-Men and Magneto stop one mutant-hunting robot?

You have to admit, even in LEGO-form, the X-Men look pretty tough. We are talking about a Sentinel though? Do you think they can take it out?

And that's it for the Sentinel. Was there any doubt the X-Men and Magneto would be able to triumph over one single Sentinel?

It's clearly a cool set. The mini-figures are great. All of them, except Cyclops has two different faces. Magneto and Wolverine have the option of their hair or mask/helmet. Storm has her lighting bolts. The Blackbird is cool too. If you're able to find this, it's definitely recommended. It's just a question of can you find it close to the retail price and will LEGO be making it more widely available?
